Wel actually, that may be so with some of the versions (its certainly true with what they did with Animal Farm recently) but the film I was referring to, was directed by Michael Radford, and stars John Hurt and the late Richard Burton. It keeps very faithfully to the original storyline of the book, and all in all is a very commendable try at bringing the story to screen with the ideas in the story still intact. I've watched it a couple of times and its does work as a good visual aid to the book.

I've read the book. I don't bother with films, they butcher the author's original concepts.
